The Best Debut Album of 2009

With the year of music officially behind us, I'd like to take a few moments to recognize the best musical debuts of 2009. There were many successful artists in a number of different genres, and the breakthroughs they made gave us hope for a bright future filled with some exciting music.

Here are three of the best music debuts of 2009.

The XX came out with their self titled album and their sound is familiar and unique all at once. The chilled out beats complement the lo-fi guitar and male/female vocals that make this album cool and relaxing. Take a listen to it if you've never heard this, and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Another great debut CD during 2009 was Mumford and Sons' Sigh No More. This band hails from London, but you'd never know it after hearing their sound. They can be best described as an indie rock band with an infusion of bluegrass. One comparison I've heard them draw is to that of the Dave Matthews Band. With vocals resembling the legendary singer and some similar instrumentation, it comes as no surprise.

One last debut CD worth mentioning that was released in 2009 is Actor by St. Vincent. This female led group brings us some of the most beautiful vocals we've heard all year, and many are in agreement with this belief.

The above albums are just a few of the many great debuts we saw during the year. As social media and other forms of technology allow music to spread more rapidly, there's no doubt in my mind that 2010 will bring us just as many promising musical debuts, if not more.
