Great Lighting Ideas For Your Home - Get the Best Lamp Type For Your Room

Having a good lamp at home will not only enhance the look of any room, but will simply change any room from a stressful and chaotic space to an oasis of relaxation and comfort. Lamps have two main functions in a home: a decorative function, or a mood creating function and an illuminating function using task lighting. In the decorative category you can also find lamps that are simply there to focus on a piece of art, on a painting, a particular item that needs additional props to be displayed in full glory.

Depending on the function you want the lamp for, you have to make sure that it will match the style that is already existing in the room. Also you need to get just the right size for the room so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb or gets lost in the multitude of other objects within the space.

If the room is big and you want some mood lighting, you need a tall lamp, maybe a floor lamp. The floor lamp is also great when you want to have it next to your sofa to be able to read properly. There are some modern adjustable lamps that can be brought up or down to the desirable level.

If you need task lighting, you usually need a smaller lamp, possibly a desk lamp that can be placed on a table, or desk for reading and doing other works, such as needlepoint or crossword puzzles or whatnot. You need just the proper lighting for what you're doing so it doesn't glare and distract your eyes from your task, however it needs to give a good source of illumination.

Also depending on where you want to place it, you need to pay attention to the type of base you are getting for your lamp. For example if you put it on a desk or table, it needs to be strong enough to withstand any accidental hits that might otherwise knock it down. Particularly families with children or pets are susceptible to this.

Having said all this, when you buy your new lamp, you need to really take into account several things in one go: the size, the shape, the style, the way it will or will not match with your room ambient, and of course the price. No matter how gorgeous your lamp is, it needs to be well within your budget. The good news is, you can find some really cool lamps online (take Amazon for example) or at your local lighting store that you can buy.

Unusual Uses For the Gooseneck Lamp

Gooseneck lamps are very popular, especially when it comes to desk and reading lamps. They have an extremely flexible neck that is easily able to bend over to illuminate anything that you are working on. More recently designers have used the adaptability of the gooseneck lamp to design floor lamps that can be used in living areas to either highlight or accentuate. They can also be used to provide lighting for those wanting to read or do other detailed work as they can be positioned so that they shine directly on a page of a book or on any craft work that is being done, while still adding to the overall decor of a room.

There are, however, some other less known uses for a gooseneck style lamp. They make great piano lamps. It can be difficult to play piano in a dimmed setting, especially if you need to read the music as you are playing. A gooseneck piano lamp can sit on top of the piano and shine either on the music sheets or on the piano keys themselves.

Portable gooseneck lamps, which are often powered by batteries, are very useful for those caring for the elderly or people who are confined to a wheelchair. They are so designed that they can be easily moved from place to place thus they can be moved very easily from bedside to wheelchair. Their very versatility makes them very suitable for this type of use.

In the bedroom they have found their place as a bedside lamp. You can find either standalone lamps or lamps that clip onto a bed head. Both styles are extremely useful when used as a bed side lamp as they can be positioned to shine only on one side of the bed. This is very helpful for the person wanting to read while their partner is sleeping.

They also have their use in the photo studio. Lighting is always an issue in photography studios as the right lighting can make a photo shoot either successful or not. A gooseneck lamp can be positioned to add highlights to the people or items being photographed, or they can be positioned behind the photographer to add more subtle light to a photo.

As you can see, there are many varied uses for a gooseneck lamp. The flexibility of the neck and the ability to fairly accurately direct the light source makes them very useful for many different tasks.

A Piano Lamp Is A Necessity For All Piano Players

A piano lamp or piano light is something every piano player should have. Proper lighting is needed to perform or practice playing the piano. Whether you are beginner or amateur pianist just beginning to learn piano, or even if you are a more advanced piano player, lighting is a must. A piano light is of course designed to look nice and classy, but it's primary function is to aid in giving proper illumination to your sheet music and piano keys, thereby improving your performance. It's been proven that having good lighting when performing a task, such as reading, writing, painting, or playing a piano, will greatly improve comprehension levels.

There are many styles of piano lights to choose from. Piano lamps are custom designed to the style and shape of a piano. There are piano lights for grand pianos, baby grand pianos, upright pianos, and electronic keyboards. Some piano lamps clamp on to the music sheet holder on the piano, and others sit on the piano but may have adjustable arms to position the light correctly. Besides the various models and types of piano lights such as clamp-on grand piano lamps or balance arm models, you might want to consider a piano light that features a dimmer switch and adjustable height.

Piano lamps can be found in both battery powered or electric models. Brass, chrome or other metal is the most commonly used material for a piano light, and most lamps come with a sturdy heavy base to add stability, but as I said earlier, the clip-on variety can also be found. Not only will a nice piano lamp brighten your fabulous piano to bring out the beauty, but remember, proper lighting is an absolute requirement to playing the piano. Figure out which style of piano lamp you think will best suit your needs and make sure you get one if you don't already have good lighting in your piano playing area.

How to Choose the Correct Size Table Lamp For a Console Table

The choice of your table lamp may sound easy but to be able to get the best and make the best out of your money, it is important to consider some guidelines when you buy your lamp. Your choice can depend on the style of your console table and the style of lamp that is appropriate for the table. It is important to know the specific purpose for using the lamp. Will this be for task lighting like reading, sewing or other work? Will it be for creating a romantic ambiance or a sophisticated and classy look or mood? Will it be used to create an accent in one specific area of the room? When you know the answer to the question on the purpose of your table lamp, the next steps will be easy.

You can choose a buffet table lamp that has a slender, sleek and sophisticated appearance. Buffet lamp is used for moderate lighting and is best for lamps in pairs or groups. This is best for solid, high quality wood console with doors.

You can also choose a rustic looking and warm mood lighting table lamp with earth tone. This is best for traditional, dark-colored half-moon console table that can be from 16 to 28 inches long. If your room has a rustic color scheme, this kind of lamp will be best for you.

Accent table lamp is good to provide a direct lighting to a specific corner of a room or to provide focus for a particular furniture piece. Give that special accent to your best decor through a lamp sitting on a high quality wood console table. You can also use it beside picture frames or your favourite books.

Your table lamp can be a great conversation piece when you have carefully chosen the style and theme that goes with the console table. Always consider the size and the color and make sure that they match. It is not good to have a big lamp standing on a small console table. The accent or the purpose of elegance and great look may be defeated.

If you are meticulous and you want the best fit for your console table and room, the best thing is to measure the table and approximate the best lamp that can stand on your console table. Use a tape measure for this purpose. Measure the diameter or area and the height of your table and when you shop for the matching lamp, always have this size in mind. A good guideline for the height of your table lamp is that guests should not be able to see the bulb when they sit beside the console table.

The color and theme are also factors that you should consider when you shop. A touch of your home motif should match an accent of your table lamp. The colors of the room, table and lamp should compliment and provide an accent that will be attractive and elegant.
